IEC TC114 Holds Annual Meeting in Madrid, Spain

IEC TC114 held their annual plenary meeting in Madrid, Spain March 16th-17th.  Bill Staby attended and presented as The United States Head of Delegation while Arielle Cardinal and Roger Bagbey served on the delegation alongside him.  In addition, 3 US Conveners attended the meeting to present on the status of their project teams: Kevin Haas, Eric Greene, and Brian Polagye.  This was the first plenary meeting convened by the new TC Chairman, Jonathan Colby of the United States. In total the meeting had about 40 participants from 12 different countries.  During the meeting the group received progress updates on: marine energy development from all participating countries, status of TC114 technical specifications, and an update from IECRE ME OMC – the group responsible for developing a process for certification of marine energy devices and projects.    Discussions regarding future work items for the TC were productive and the TC decided to move forward with a new work item proposal for the  Measurement of Mechanical Loads and formation of the Strategic Business Plan taskforce who will update the committee’s current plan.   The TC has published 8 Technical Specifications since its inception in 2008 which are beginning to be used by industry in project and device development.  Prior to the plenary meeting, 7 different project teams held meetings in Madrid working to progress the status of their documents.  The US would like to thank our Spanish hosts for a very productive and well organized meeting.  The US will host the next Plenary meeting which will take place in Seattle in 2018.
